This past week, we’ve been covering the Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM) annual meeting held in Portland, OR. Presenters offered thought-provoking and insightful lectures and research and highlighted coming AI trends in radiology, and it’s no wonder that our top five stories came out of the conference.
Our most-read article of the week covered a keynote address delivered by U.S. policy expert Rohini Kosoglu regarding the question of who will “win” the AI revolution in healthcare. During her talk, she noted that “if you believe in health AI, political literacy is a strategic must.”
The second most-popular article highlighted a conversation between Tyler Bradshaw, PhD, of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, and Eliot Siegel, MD, of the University of Maryland, about the role informatics will play in the future of theranostics. Our third most-clicked piece was a video interview with Howard Chen, MD, of the Cleveland Clinic, who discussed AI implementation and development trends.
Fourth on the list? A report on a presentation that explored the question of whether foundation models are the future for AI in radiology, while the fifth most-read item was another video interview, this time with Florence Doo, MD, of the University of Maryland, who spoke about AI sustainability in radiology.
In addition to SIIM coverage, readers showed interest in research that indicated that large language models (LLMs) could boost error detection in x-ray reports, a study that explored whether more reliance on advanced imaging is leading to higher workloads, and work that found that CT imaging shows how cystic lesions found on lung cancer screening may translate to increased risk of malignancy.
