Week in Review: ECR coverage | Fatal MRI communication crisis | Heart imaging radiation doses vary

The European Congress of Radiology begins on March 4 in Vienna, Austria, and our sister site, AuntMinnieEurope, will be offering extensive coverage. We’ll also be posting some selected stories on AuntMinnie, so keep your eyes peeled for our articles on European research.

Our top story of the week was actually a podcast: the latest episode of “The Invisible Force,” which explored points of communication failure following a fatal MRI accident. Also of interest to our readers was a JAMA study that found wide global variation in cardiac imaging dose, underscoring a “critical need for training, standardized protocols, and updated equipment to reduce radiation worldwide.” Our third most popular story covered results from the PROMISE study that indicate that women face higher heart disease risk at lower plaque burden levels than their male counterparts.

Radiology practices are experiencing increased turnover rates, and our fourth most-clicked article reported on a study conducted by a team out of the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston that identified several factors tied to the trend.
