The top priority for mammography departments in 2025 is to improve patient satisfaction with their mammography experience, with an average rating of 4.7 out of 5, with 72% of sites giving a priority of 5, according to the newly published IMV 2025 Mammography and Breast Imaging Market Outlook Report.

Why? To counter competition: The survey found that 14% of respondents indicated that competition with other mammography imaging providers in their area is reducing the number of patients scanned at their facility.
A few factors the report found that could impact patient satisfaction are site staffing, self-booking for exams, and biopsy collection. In 2025, 15% of mammography sites are experiencing staffing challenges, with the most challenging factor being difficulty finding qualified candidates. In fact, 9% of sites stated they are not staffed at optimal levels. On average, there are 1.4 mammography technologists involved with preparing patients for exams, which translates to 70% of sites using one technologist, 24% using two, and 6% using three or more.
Overall, 30% of sites are using self-booking services for booking patient exams, with a range of 47% to 51% of nonhospitals and hospitals with 400 beds or more using this service compared with 16% to 21% of hospitals with 400 or fewer beds.

Regarding biopsies, 60% of sites collect biopsies at the same facility where mammograms are performed, the report found, with ultrasound-guided biopsy being the most common type.
To sum up, patient satisfaction is a key priority for mammography departments, and they address this by creating a convenient screening experience through optimizing their site operations, making it easier to schedule appointments, and reducing the number of visits required by providing onsite biopsy procedures.
